Srinagar’s 200-year-old, historical shrine, the Ghaus-e-Azam, or Dastgeer Sahib was gutted in a fire today. The Shrine built in reverence for the 11th century saint, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani in Kashmir cut across religious barriers. However ancient relics of the saint, housed in the Shrine have been saved and retrieved. Officials say since they were kept in a fire-proof safe they remained unharmed. Clashes broke out in Srinagar after the fire in the shrine. Images of the fire.
